What is Thermography?
Thermography is Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI). It is a method of capturing an image of the body based on the thermal patterns it emits. There is a high degree of thermal symmetry in a normal healthy body. Subtle abnormal thermal asymmetries can be easily identified by thermography and may be attributed to pathology (disease) or dysfunction.
What equipment do you use?
I use a thermal Meditherm imaging camera which is FDA approved as a medical device. It captures 84,000 temperature measurements in one image and is accurate to 1/100 of a degree.
Who should get a thermography scan?
It is a health scan and it is for everybody whether you have symptoms or not. Some clients use it as an annual health check, some use it to discover the source of pain, some use it for obvious symptoms and some use it as a preventative tool. It is suitable for both men and women and it can also be used for pets.
Can it diagnose cancer?
No. And neither can any other type of scan. The only way to diagnose cancer is with a biopsy. A thermal image can show abnormal heat patterns and give you an idea if an area of your body is at risk.
Does it hurt?
No. Thermography is painless.
Does it use radiation?
No. Thermography is completely safe, it does not use any harmful radiation.
Do I need a doctors referral?
No. You can make an appointment without a doctors referral.
How long does the scan take?
Depending on the scan (full body, half body, breast or region of interest) it can take from 15 – 60 minutes. Please allow at least an hour.
Where is your training from?
I trained with the American College of Clinical Thermography in Florida. For more information, see www.thermologyonline.org
How do I prepare for my scan?
Please see this section on scan procedure.
When will I receive my results?
You will have a detailed medical report to you within a week. If there are any areas of concern, I will contact you to discuss.
What will I receive in my results pack?
You will receive a report written by a medical doctor. It will include colour images of the scanned body parts and will identify any areas of risk. The report is written using medical terminology and comes with a document which can be used to interpret the report. I will send the report to a physician of your choice if you choose. Extra copies come at an additional cost.
Is thermography covered by insurance?
No but it may be in the future. It falls outside current medical insurance plans.
How much does it cost?
